Deadline
The deadline for submitting a roleplay is every Tuesday by 11:59 pm EST, unless otherwise noted. There will be no exceptions allowed. If you find yourself unable to write and submit a roleplay for whatever reason, please reach out to the person or people you're booked against that week to discuss a potential solution to submit to the admins. Be aware that it is not your opponents' obligation to accommodate, but it is strongly encouraged. If a pre-arranged solution has not been brought before the admins by all parties and no roleplay has been posted by deadline, it will result in an automatic loss for the absent party.
Word Cap
All Promos are confined to a 1,500 word "soft cap". Should a competitor post a roleplay that goes beyond 1500 words, they will not be automatically disqualified. In fact, anyone is free to write as many words or as few words as they like. That being said, when a roleplay is judged, only the first 1500 words will be considered. Word count will be determined through WordCounter.net so it is strongly encouraged you check your roleplay there before submitting. Formatting will not count against word cap, but any words found in or on any image that is considered vital to reading the RP will be counted (e.g. a picture with an added caption).
What We Judge On
Above all, BPW judges will rate roleplays based on entertainment and quality of storytelling. Many feds value "shoot" above all else - we do not. With a word cap as small as ours, we are more interested in seeing a developed character interacting with and within the world of Black Pyramid Wrestling than the mean things they can say about someone else. Competitors are encouraged not only in developing themselves within the world but with the those around them.
As a high concept efed, we value community and world building. The more enmeshed your roleplay puts your character with the community and others, the better you'll do. Characters who are thorough, certain of themselves, and interesting will excel. Not everyone needs to be complex; a vicious monster does not need to be three-dimensional to be interesting. Stick to your guns and play your role. And be knowledgeable about where you fit in the world of Black Pyramid Wrestling. We strongly encourage you to read the roleplays of others so as to have an idea of how the world is changing around them; demonstrated knowledge of the world and collaborative storytelling is looked upon favorably. Selling is, likewise, the key to a healthy community.
Last but not least, the winning roleplay will be the one which best sells the competitor as the likely winner. Match relevance is critical - it does not need to be as on-the-nose as a shoot, but it must exist and be central to the roleplay. This can be as simple as demonstrating why your character fights or the grit they have, or it can be as complex as a meditation on their personal hatred for an opponent. For all other material, we encourage generous posting on the Sandbox Board.
Do not be afraid to ask judges for feedback! Our inboxes are always open, and we're eager to share our thoughts, opinions, and passion for the fed with you! And above all, have fun!
