:: Static ::
The following footage is dramatized for both television and to protect the innocent..
In the fall of 2021 Y.E., the year of Yeezus, a young family named Thompsons moved in to a quiet new home to film the pilot to a new TV show, “The Thompsons.” The cameras were static and hidden. The film crew set up and left. The goal was act normal. Simple. Boring. Normal.
“We can do normal, right?” they thought to themselves. By all accounts normal should be easy. Normal should be fun.
For the first week, everything was as everything should be. The fridge ran cold. The oven ran hot. The sky was green and the grass was blue.
Normal. Easy. Fun.
Then, odd things started happening.
The fridge ran hot. The oven ran cold and a family seemingly well put together became at odds. At first it was the little things. The water heater broke. Theres a strange smell in the basement. Children laughing. Women crying, when there were no children or women about. None, at least, accounted for, anyway. Papa Thompson was charged with two things. Fix the water heater and investigate the smell. The rest would come later.
Night 16. The Smell.
The oatmeal mouthed papa Thompson with his flannel shirt and his blue jeans mounted an investigation to the smell. A flashlight and a rag were his only defense.
Each step grew darker.
The smell got stronger. It wasn't fish. It was wasn't mildew. It wasn't normal basement smells.
It was just.. off.
The basement had been old storage. Furniture they've seen in pictures. Old fixtures covered in dusty sheets.
The steps buckle. Wooden and old.
A crash. A bang.
The sight of blood. The loss of consciousness
And a lingering smell
Night 17. The sound
Danny Thompson was up in the spare room. Ice pack on his head. Waking up from his fall. His head spun split and pounded.
Shapes and colors swirled just outside his vision and searching for them got him dizzy. The water heater would have to wait.
Everyone else were in different rooms. Either being quiet or giving candid interviews in hushed tones, as was mama Alice.
On an office chair sitting in front of a Webcam, Alice recounts to the audience.
" last night, Danny was looking for whatever makes that awful smell in the basement when one of the steps gave way. He was bleeding from the back of his head, I suppose where it clipped the staircase. He'll be ok. He's strong. He's resilient. I just want to hot a shower. You know."
Thumping can be heard. Like a basketball on the floor.
"Alice!" Calls Danny. Followed by the signs of anguish.
Then silence. It all stopped.
Alice still trying to investigate walked into the dark room. Noticing two red eyes, looking back at her from the window.
She turns the lights on. They vanish with the bulbs. She looks over to the red lights on the alarm clock and makes a fools assumption and Danny is asleep.
Night 22.
Danny left ready to tackle the water heater. Between the incident and now, the production team had fixed the stairs but felt Danny could manage looking at the plumbing. They even diagnosed if anything could go wrong.
Their assessment was that it was just a gasket seal. Something that Danny could fix given proper tools. Which they laid out for him.
When confronted about the smell. They could not confirm. It could have been gas. It could have been anything. And yet, could have been nothing at all.
Down in the basement the water heater had gotten fixed with no issue. Danny, did his daddy duty.
He uses the old brickwork to brace himself upright
It crumbles. He staggers.
Behind the brick was wood. Clearly wood. Danny started to claw at the bricks to reveal more and more wood. A door. Old with rotting face.
That Thumping starts again
And danny.. blacks out.
