Three wins, three losses, one draw. Figures, I’d end the season with a fifty-fifty record. I’m thankful for my last match being a win. Corey Bull tried to be the big, bad wolf of BPW, but I was able to halt his momentum. That should humble him. I get to look in another direction now. My first triple threat match. I’ve already defeated Jason Wilds, so he isn’t who I’m concerned about.
At this point, I’m convinced N~8 doesn’t trust me alone. She’s been by my side almost any time I try to find some time by myself. All of us have our own private quarters now, which shows how impressive the size of this bunker truly is. Mine is mostly empty, for now, aside from some lights and my bed. Once we recover our ship, I’ll be sure to put some of my tech in here. I had some things I was working on before the crash. Unfortunately, I’ll most likely have to start from square one on most of it, but it will give me something to do while I’m on Earth. Anywho...
N~8: Hmm. Wonder what she’s all about, aside from the corny name.
L~7: Almost as “corny” as all the Earth slang you’ve picked up.
N~8: Oh, hush. It’s all about blending in. Plus, it’s kinda fun. That Ray guy uses a lot of slang too. We’ve been hanging out more.
L~7: Hopefully, your top priority is to find Numine, and not to flirt with the detective.
N~8: Flirt? Gross. He’s too old for me. Plus, humans don’t last long enough. I don’t wanna deal with that heartache.
L~7: Well then, why would you expect me to flirt with Remy?
N~8: We’re two different quasonics, L. You’re too much of a romantic, and you have this thing about wanting to help people you really care about.
L~7: What? I still have my limits, 8. Romance is not something I want to focus on while I’m stuck here. The conversation we had a few weeks ago is still the only conversation we ever had.
N~8: Doesn’t mean the feelings aren’t there. You fall fast and hard, L. You may not see it, but I do.
L~7: Look, 8, even if I did have feelings, and I don’t, I have more important things to focus on. I wouldn’t plan on pursuing anything with him.
N~8: You better not. No matter how hot or talented he is, he’s still a sleaze bag.
L~7: Goodness, you and that slang.
Suddenly, someone knocks on the door. These doors are very loud. I might install a doorbell, or something to that effect.
L~7: You don’t have to answer for me.
N~8 does a claw-like gesture and makes aggressive cat sounds. She’s beginning to weird me out. Salone and M~9 are at the door. M~9 has the holo, with Ray Zurra being projected on it.
~~~~~~~
M~9, Salone, and I made it over to the outside of the station where our ship should be at, although I don’t currently see it anywhere. Salone was able to make himself look more humanesque, so we don’t cause any odd conversation. Mallik couldn’t have done that, and I was able to convince N~8 to stay with him.
Ray: Come. Follow me.
Ray leads us behind the station. There’s a big building behind it, almost like a barn, or a shed. It looks hastily made. I notice something else as well.
Ray: Yup. It’s subtle at first, until you get closer to the building. Except…
The door is sealed shut. Multiple locks keep us out. This isn’t normal..
Salone: You’d think Boulder City would have a better building for something like this.
M~9: They probably weren’t prepared to have a giant ship from out of this world crash land. Most likely, they panicked, picked a discreet area, and went from there.
L~7: Okay, but how did Numine get back here? They were unconscious, yet somehow escaped from a sealed, underground bunker into a private, locked up shed. Something is up, and I don’t think the police here know it.
Ray: They don’t. I already talked to them. That’s why I brought you three over here. We don’t have permission to actually go into the shed just yet. Apparently, that requires a bunch of paperwork. Cops hate paperwork, so expect that to take a while. I’ll bother them to make sure it gets done. These guys are too scared to actually go into the ship, especially now that they know about Numine. For now, we should look around the shed, and the general area, and see if we can’t find anything.
L~7: So we have permission to be around the shed, but not inside of it.
Ray: Yeah, that’s what the guys told me.
Salone: We should hurry. I have a bad feeling about this.
We split up to search the area for any clues. It’s a rather secluded area, aside from the distant officers chatting at the back of the station building. They seem more concerned about their coffee and donuts, instead of protecting and serving. After about an hour, it seems like there isn’t much else we find, until…
We all join up when we notice a purple glow emitting from the shed. The officers join us to find out what’s going on. The light continues to brighten.
They look at me, look at the shed, and then begin to unlock the doors. Just as they unlock it, we see the ship rumble and hover in the air.
We try to get to it as fast as possible, Salone even jumping at the ship. He falls before it takes off into space.
We all get out of dodge before it tumbles down to pieces. Unfortunately, this causes a lot of commotion. More officers come out, but not from the station.
Ray: And they’re not carrying normal guns. We need to get outta here. Now!
As we all scatter, we hear… lasers!?
Salone: They aren’t from our ship either! What in the Universe is going on!?
L~7: I don’t know, but we don’t have the arms to take them on.
Ray: Says you. Get back.
L~7: Ray, no!
It’s too late. He splits off from us, and starts a gunfight. Wait, he hid that submachine gun in his trench coat? Is that why he wears that thing all the time? The rest of us find a spot to take cover. Somehow, Ray, along with the other cops hold their own against these mystery officers. Unfortunately, the Boulder City police don’t fare well for long, but thankfully, neither do the mystery police. Somehow, after a lot of close calls, and some impressive athleticism, Ray is the last one standing.
Ray: Not here. We need to find a better place to talk. I’ll call you guys when I find a safe place to talk. Right now, all of us need to get out of here, in case they bring reinforcements.
He puts his gun away and leaves before any of us could respond. I’ve never been so confused and concerned in my life. It seems like both M~9 and Salone feel the same way. We all make haste back to the bunker, for better or for worse.
